BHC artists win awards in 2024 Student Art Exhibition

Six Black Hawk College students recently were honored for their artistic talent in the annual Student Art Exhibition.

The juried competition garnered 65 entries with 25 pieces selected for the show by juror Steve Banks.

Tarah Smith of Pleasant Valley, IA, won Best in Show for “自画像,” a gouache painting.

The other winners are:

  • 2nd –
    • Ethan Jackson of Davenport, IA – “Reflections” – charcoal
  • 3rd –
    • Topacio马丁内斯 of Rock Island – “自画像” – charcoal
    • 莱克斯戈登 of Geneseo – “Laying in the Flower Garden” – cardboard and hot glue
  • Honorable mentions –
    • Topacio马丁内斯 – “Sardine Can” – cardboard relief
    • 佐伊Godfroy of Rock Island – “‘Dreamer’ Zine” – watercolor and ink on mixed media paper
    • Danie Pement of East Moline – “Into the Woods” – mixed media
    • Danie Pement – “Caged Ruins” – mixed media
